West Indies won the toss and chose to field against Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka have barely had time to catch their breath after losing Thursday's thrilling last-baller against West Indies, but their new-look side will be looking to square the series in Port-of-Spain in the second of three ODIs.
The visitors were defending 235 for 7 two days ago but as the match crept towards its conclusion, one man stood in their way: Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Despite battling the symptoms of 'flu, he took West Indies to a remarkable one-wicket win in his 63-ball 62. Needing 10 off two deliveries he glided four down the ground before carting a Chaminda Vaas full toss over midwicket for six to send West Indies' fans into utter raptures.
Sri Lanka might have lost, but Mahela Jayawardene can still take a number of positives from the defeat in Guyana, most notably the performance of his debutant spinner, Ajantha Mendis, who set batsman's pulses racing and fans' tongues wagging. Although only 23-years-old he showed remarkable composure in his first game, mixing up legbreaks, googlies and flippers with ease and West Indies' batsman struggled to pick him. He is undoubtedly one for the future, but it might be too tall an ask to expect someone so inexperienced to lead Sri Lanka to a series-levelling win.
Sri Lanka draft in Kaushalya Weeraratne for Ishara Amerasinghe, while West Indies have dropped Patrick Browne in favour of Denesh Ramdin. They bolster their bowling with the addition of Daren Powell.
